Capacity Bill consultation ends 2 September

Mental Capacity consultation

Reminder: the consultation deadline for the NI Mental Capacity Bill is 2 September.

The Law Centre has published two documents to help clarify the important aspects of the Bill:

Our Community Care and Mental Health Policy Unit has prepared a briefing clarifying the core civil provisions of the Bill: www.lawcentreni.org/Publications/Policy-Briefings/Mental-Capacity-Bill-explained-July-2014.pdf

Our Director Les Allamby has written an overview of the implications of the Bill in the Law Society's WRIT magazine: http://www.lawsoc-ni.org/publications/the-writ-magazine-/ issue 221, May-June 2014, pages 39-40.

The Law Centre held a Chatham House Rule consultation event on 14 August to help inform our own response.

Speaking at the event were (see photo above left to right): Michael Bower, Policy Officer, Law Centre (NI); Caroline Cooley, Community Care Legal Adviser, Law Centre (NI); Professor Genevra Richardson, King College London; Colin Harper, Assistant Director (Community Care and Mental Health), Law Centre (NI); Professor Phil Fennell, Cardiff University; Professor Roy McClelland, QUB, Belfast Health and Social Care trust, former chair of Bamford Review and currently a member of the Mental Capacity Legislation Northern Ireland Project Board).
