LSP volunteers make a difference
2-6 Nov is National Pro-Bono Week. At the Law Centre #WeDoProBono. Could you be a Legal Support Project tribunal rep?
The case work in the LSP is carried out by volunteers who provide advice, undertake preparation and negotiation and represent at tribunal hearings. The volunteers are trained and supported by LSP staff. In 2013-14, 61 volunteers gave 1,916 pro-bono hours and worked on 139 cases.
The LSP is looking for volunteers from a wide variety of legal/advice backgrounds and experience. The project will be of particular interest to experienced advisers, law graduates and newly qualified lawyers who want to gain valuable representation experience, and those wishing to refresh their skills after a break from legal practice. If you are interested in applying to work with the LSP you can download the LSP application form below and return it to Sinead Mulhern Head of LSP, Law Centre (NI), 124 Donegall Street Belfast BT1 2GY.
We are also looking for experienced legal practitioners to provide some pro bono support to those volunteers and to the work of the project generally. This could involve, for example, giving specialist legal advice or providing training or mentoring support to volunteers. If you are interested please contact the Sinead Mulhern Head of LSP at the contact details below.
