Social security changes in response to COVID-19

The Law Centre NI social security hub has launched an update on all the key social security commitments affecting Northern Ireland. The document is aimed to help advisers as well as new and existing claimants. The document has now been updated as of 22 April 2020.

The update also includes further recommendations from Law Centre NI that would help support and protect claimants.

Legal Officer, Owen McCloskey, said: We have published this update to make sure advisers and members of the public have the most up-to-date and accurate information around new changes and commitments.

We have been meeting with Department for Communities officials to get the latest updates and to help influence positive changes that will help new and existing claimants at this time.

We will continue to update this document as the legal and policy landscape changes. Accurate information is crucial to ensuring people access the social security provisions they are entitled to.

I would encourage anyone who has any questions around their entitlement to contact the Law Centre NI legal advice line on (028) 9024 4401.
